SHEDDING A NEW LIGHT ON A GREAT MAN IN HISTORY

I came about reading "Niccolo's Smile" when assigned to read "The Prince" and a desire to know more about the author and his motivation, I am so very delighted that I did.

In the past, whenever I came across the word "Machiavellian", there was always a negative connotation tied to it. Now I know better.
Not many books in this genre have moved me as this one has and I am so grateful that I discovered it.  The smile is no longer so enigmatic, but more importantly, the realization that this wonderful man was so horribly misunderstood and under-appreciated and the sadness that he must have felt throughout his life was very moving. It was also a great review of the happenings of that critical time in Italian history in which he played such an important role for such little recognition. A wonderful gift from the author.

An interesting perspective

I love K&N filters and have trusted many expensive and some highly modified cars to them. These work great on my slightly modified 02 Camaro. Many see Machiavelli as a cold hearted bastard that taught people to be liars and dictators. This puts his life and works in a new perspective. Who would have known that Machiavelli was the life of the party at one point? If you want to get to know one of the greatest minds this world has ever seen a little better you need to read this book.

Great Introduction to Yoga

I bought this book for a friend who recently served a 3 year prison sentence. Since his release he has been in and out of rehab and periodically struggles with homelessness. This is a great introduction for someone who has no previous knowledge of yoga. It does a great job touching on the basic principles and simply explains how to do different poses. It even includes illustrations of poses that were drawn by prisoners who practice. I would recommend this to anyone new to the practice.

About the Author

William "Rick" Yount is professor and assistant dean of the Foundations of Education division, School of Educational Ministries, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He travels every year to teach pastors and missionaries in the former Soviet Union. Yount lives with his wife in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mike Barnett is Elmer V. Thompson professor of Missionary Church Planting at Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions in Columbia, South Carolina. He and his wife served twelve years with the International Mission Board. Barnett’s specialties include church planting, business as missions, and the history of global Christianity.

I had this part of my required reading for a class. At least of my classmates found it very helpful and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, for me the book was a chore to read; The chapters were long and wordy. There are probably some really good things in this book, but unfortunately I think the meanings of the chapters got buried.
