Simply Stunning Personality

I always wanted to read biographies of people who shaped history - and without a doubt Martin Luther King was on my list. Though I bought this book few years ago, I finally got to read it.
I was nice to know how he put lot of emphasis in studies and writings from famous thinkers (mainly Thoreau) of his time. Gandhi's non-cooperation movement in India also influenced his idea-logy.
"We must keep God in the forefront. Let us be Christian in all our actions." he addresses the crowd gathered to protest racial segregation on the public transit system of Montgomery, Alabama during Dec 1, 1955. In one of his speeches he says "If we are wrong, justice is a lie. And we are determined here in Montgomery to work and fight until justice runs down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.". His personality to speak the right word without ever sowing a seed of hate among his followers to me simply is divine. And pursuing his mission with civil-disobedience without almost any violence and bloodshed speaks tons of his wisdom. This wisdom all along his struggle is well written in the book. It was a great read to understand how he shaped his impeccable personality sticking to ideas and not losing his wisdom and integrity till the end, he died when he was only 39 towering strength of will and character for that young age.

A Biography of Martin Luther King Jr.

I had always been interested in Martin Luther King Jr. I first became interested in Reverend King after hearing his famous speech "I have a dream". I enjoyed this book because I got to learn about how he came to become a great civil right leader, pastor and orator. When Martin was a young man attending mostly white school and colleges, he didn't want people to perceive of him as the stereotypical African American. He studied everything he could get his hands on and even pressed his own clothes daily. I enjoyed reading the chapter on his courting of Coretta Scott. Beginning with the Rosa Parks bus incident, and through Dr King's studies of Jesus and Gandhi, he was able to change the history of civil rights through mass civil disobedience and non-violence. It saddens me that Dr. King's life was cut short, but I am glad that he will always be remembered and discussed.
